The Film Program covers the fields of Scriptwriting, Cinematography, Directing and Production. The goal of the program is that students specialise in one area while continuously working in teams.
Directing Department
Apart from artistic talent, working as a director especially requires collaboration and supervising skills. Subjects such as dramaturgy, film analysis and editing form the academic basis – practical work enables students to run a film set and to give their own key to the productions as “spiritus rector”.
Camera Department
Besides the technical foundations like camera systems, film material or lighting, the main focus of the course is on film narratives. Classes in dramaturgy, iconography or image theory, and film analysis form a theoretical foundation for practical work. Visual concepts are developed and realised in collaboration with renowned cinematographers.
Scriptwriting Department
For sound storytelling, perfect command of the rules of dramatisation and characterisation must be developed. Experienced authors instruct students on systemising working techniques and developing formats, for example. The curriculum includes the formal aspects of writing for film as well as an approach to a realistic production environment.
Production Department
Project development, placement, project realisation (with all its particulars such as casting, budgeting, post-production) – these are the main tasks that are to be accomplished, financially, legally and also artistically. Extensive dramaturgy training should further enable students to analyse and evaluate, then to develop and realise plots and ideas.
