The majority of overall costs of the HMS courses is covered by the Hamburg Media School Foundation, the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, the University of Hamburg and the Hamburg Academy of Fine Arts (HfBK). In addition, students are included in the financing of their education.

Tuition fees for the Master of Arts in Journalism at the HMS are at 6,000 Euros per year.
The expressed aim of the Hamburg Media School is to admit students to the program solely according to talent, performance and motivation. Therefore the HMS has developed a customized support program to enable access to the program independent of the financial situation of applicants.
