Applying for the MBA in Media Management

The following provides details of application requirements for the MBA program in Media Management.

Step 1: Online and written application:

I. Online Application
Please complete the application form by the application deadline. This will be sent directly to HMS through an automatic e-mail function. (To download the online application form click the link below.)

II. Written Application
Please include the following in your written application:

a) A completed application form:
Application form may be downloaded from this site.

b) Two contacts of recommendation:
Please hand in the contact of two possible referencees, one employer where you earned some practical experiences and one professor, for whom you have wirked or studied.  

c) Two essays:
Please download the essay assignments from this page and complete the two assignments given.

d) Certificate of the Central High School testing board (ZOP) or the Test of Business German (PWD):
Exam dates are set by the examination centers of the Goethe Institute. You will need to contact the examination center where you wish to take the exam for further details. You can find all necessary information about the tests via the link on this page.

e) Passport photograph (with your name and signature on the back)

f) Certified copies of
- Academic transcripts of your “Abitur”, A-Level or equivalent Secondary School report
- Your college or university degree (or equivalent) or diploma.
Records of examinations completed after the application deadline can be handed in later.

g) Other reports and certificates:
Internships, vocational training or other professional activities.

If you are not able to complete the written portions of your application with a typewriter or a PC, we ask you to write legibly in black ink to facilitate the processing of your application.

Step 2: Assessment Centre and Personal Interview

The best applicants will be chosen to attend an assessment center and a personal interview. Members of the faculty, managers and employees of Hamburg Media School will spend a full day observing candidates during presentations and group discussions and will determine if the applicants meet the requirements of the MBA program.
Assessment of social competence and management skills play an important part in the decision of the committee.
Interviews usually take place on campus approximately three weeks after the application deadline.
The admissions committee makes the final decision about admittance to the university. Students are generally informed of the decision immediately after the assessment interview has been completed.
